For all you Star Trek fans out there, this is where it all began for Patrick Stewart. From Mirfield to Hollywood - tha wud nivver uv nawn (translation: you would never have known!). I wonder if Patrick Stewart ever gets back to Mirfield? Probably not. After all, it wouldn't be easy parking the Starship Enterprise down Camm Lane - it's only a narrow street and it is quite a steep hill.

Patrick Stewart was born on 13 July 1940 at Camm Lane in Mirfield. He showed a natural flair for acting from a very early age when he appeared in pantomime at Mirfield Parish Church. He became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1966. Patrick Stewart is now famous for the lead role in the science fiction series, Star Trek.

When I lived in Mirfield, Patrick's brother Geoff was our next-door neighbour. I also had the good fortune of attending the same school (Crowlees Boys') as Patrick Stewart though not at the same time.

This is the "Camm Lane" sign on the street where Patrick Stewart spent his early years. A recent BBC TV programme tracing the life of Patrick Stewart began the programme by showing several shots down this street.

It's incredible to think that the captain of the Star Ship Enterprise, Jean-Luc Picard, started out his life here.

This is the very house at which Patrick Stewart lived as a child growing up in Mirfield. I wonder if the people living here now are Star Trek fans!
