NEW!        MIRFIELD IN PICTURES CELEBRATES        NEW!
ITS TENTH ANNIVERSARY

Well, it's exactly ten years ago that I set up this website. At the turn of the new millennium, I thought that would be an auspicious time to set the ball rolling. So, in August 2000, Mirfield in Pictures was born. I'm delighted with the response I've had and this is evidenced by the fact that the site has received just over 75,000 visitors to date (see counter at bottom of each page). I feel in good company with two other personal Mirfield websites, namely, Mirfield Memories and Mirfield A Second Look. All three sites work well together. For me, it is the rich history of Mirfield that now fascinates me most about my birthplace.

       MIRFIELD IN PICTURES FREE SCREENSAVER

Have you downloaded and installed the Mirfield screensaver yet? It is still available from here. The file will download as mip1.zip - simply unzip the file and save it to C:\WINDOWS\system32 (for Windows XP), where C is your hard drive. If you're running another version of Windows, just let me know. The download is guaranteed to be free from any form of malware and is a mere 842kB so it will download in a few seconds using a broadband connection. To date, 135 people have downloaded this screensaver. I'm also working on a new one, so - watch this space!

DOMESDAY EXTRACTS

Some time ago, I bought a copy of the Mirfield entry in the Domesday Book. To be honest, it's a very brief entry but still makes for interesting reading and provides a different perspective of Mirfield (Mirefeld) over 900 years ago. It was published in 1086 at the instruction of William the Conqueror. If you're interested, please take a look at Domesday Extracts. Now, just in case you're wondering - no, I'm not on commission!

GENEALOGY & FAMILY HISTORY

I get a good few visitors to this website who are researching their family history. This is clear from the number of entries in The Kirklees SiteRing, which can be found on the Useful Links page. GENUKI (genealogical information for UK and Ireland) have a very interesting page about Mirfield and it can be found at GENUKI: Mirfield.
