One of the distinctive hallmarks of any Yorkshire person is the Yorkshire accent. And, being such a large county, there are regional variations throughout Yorkshire. Indeed, there are considerable differences between the West Yorkshire dialect and that of East Yorkshire, for example. When I lived in Mirfield, I was unaware of my accent. But when I ventured 'down south', the locals could not understand me!

So, it's time for a bit of a laugh! Enter some text in the box below, click on 'Translate' and your text will be translated into the Yorkshire dialect. As an example, you could start with something like "Mirfield is a small town in West Yorkshire". Go on, give it a try.

The Yorkshire dialect is known as Tyke. In fact, the word 'Tyke' is also used to refer to a Yorkshire person. Now, the question is - how good is your knowledge of Tyke? Well, here's your chance to find out. Try this short quiz by clicking on the link below and
check out your score. I'll be honest, I got one wrong but see how you get on.
